Simple Pleasure

The other day Matt took the kids fishing while I was busy in town. I got home about 9pm to find my house quite and empty, so... fishing I went! It was such a nice night and we were all having a blast, we decided to build a small campfire and do a little fishing in the dark. The kids were in heaven. They thought that was SO cool. The only thing we needed were the marshmallows. Here's a picture of Matthew with his catch.... a catfish that weighed about 9-10lbs! This was the big one of the night, although there were quite a few big catfish in the spot we found. We even caught a leatherback turtle!

Scout Day Camp

Dustin had his first day camp for Boy Scouts this month. He was really looking forward to it because they are able to shoot bb guns and bow and arrows. He did great at both, ranked at the top of his group:) It was only a 2 day thing & on the last day, they had a campfire event for all of the parents. They had entertainment for the boys and also the boys did skits. Dustin's group did a skit on "How to conserve water while camping." The boy on the far left took a drink of water, then each boy 'blew' it into the next boys ear...all the way down the line. Cute huh?!?! Here is Dustin brushing his teeth....


For the campfire, there were a few boys who got to help with the Flag Ceremony and Lighting of the Fire. These boys got chosen based on their behavior and helpfulness....Dustin was one of them!!!

Shop Entertainment

The other night we walked over to the shop to take Matt a glass of Iced tea and while we were hanging out, the kids found the air blower. They thought that it was pretty fun and had to blow the dust off of everyone and everything....

Note the safety glasses. If Matt has taught them anything, it's the importance of safety glasses:)

After everything was dusted off, they got a little more creative....

Ahhhhh.....

The other day Riley Jo brought these to me and said "you're the best mom. Thanks for being mine." Isn't that sweet?!?

That extra touch is goose feathers =)

Meet Dinker & Slobber.....

We have 2 bottle calves residing in our yard for awhile. Their names pretty much say it all. One is VERY aggressive and inhales his bottle resulting in an insane amount of slobber, and the other is quite a bit smaller and very untrusting.

We've been letting them roam and enjoy the green grass, which they really like, but when feeding time rolls around and the kids walk out there with the bottles, it takes all they got to get the calves in the pen without dropping the bottles.

Mission accomplished!!!

GoodGuys Car Show

For the last part of our trip, we met up with my family in Fort Collins for the GoodGuys Car Show. Good Times....



My ideal car is the Olds 442. I like this car...

I'm trying to convince Matt that this should be the car we build...this would be a great sleeper car, but he seems to think we need something that looks a little bit more macho.

The guy who has this rat rod made the kids' day because he let them sit in it. This car is taking on the theme of the Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time"...literally....

Tater liked this truck because he's pretty sure that he would be able to reach the pedals in it. If only he could try.....

with a 2006 model interior...... complete with CD player!


Needless to say, we had a very busy and exciting week. The car show was awesome and we're so glad that we were able to spend some time with family and friends. I can honestly say that being gone that long makes me appreciate my bed more!! The kids finally really crashed Friday night after swimming in the pool. I just had to snap a picture of it.....

Next stop....Sutherland

The few days we spent in Sutherland with some friends, were jammed packed full of activities.
We weren't there but an hour before the bow and arrows got dug out. Jesse had a small bow that Dustin got to try his hand at. He managed to get it pulled back pretty good. He even managed to hit the deer decoy a few times!! Way to go Tater!!!



Dustin really enjoyed this. Just one more thing to add to his growing artillery.



Next on the agenda was a round of golf for the guys. Dustin thought this was really fun because he got to drive the golf cart.

Day 2 consisted of prairie dog shooting. Dustin got to take the .22 along and was really looking forward to nailing some of those little critters and was pretty disappointed to find out that the dogs were too far away for his gun to reach. So Matt set up a cardboard box as a target for him and he filled that full of holes. Still, not the same he informed me. That night we went to this neat restaurant in Paxton, Ole's Steakhouse. This place is FULL of all kinds of exotic animal mounts that the owner hunted himself. Of course I forgot my camera, but to name a few...elephant, giraffe, water buffalo, polar bear...you get the idea. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. (the food is good too)

After dinner, we all went to the golf course to hit a bucket of balls. The kids really enjoyed this too. I'm glad to report that we didn't have one crash with the cart!!!

Before we knew it, it was dark and time to go.
