Next stop....Sutherland

The few days we spent in Sutherland with some friends, were jammed packed full of activities.
We weren't there but an hour before the bow and arrows got dug out. Jesse had a small bow that Dustin got to try his hand at. He managed to get it pulled back pretty good. He even managed to hit the deer decoy a few times!! Way to go Tater!!!



Dustin really enjoyed this. Just one more thing to add to his growing artillery.



Next on the agenda was a round of golf for the guys. Dustin thought this was really fun because he got to drive the golf cart.

Day 2 consisted of prairie dog shooting. Dustin got to take the .22 along and was really looking forward to nailing some of those little critters and was pretty disappointed to find out that the dogs were too far away for his gun to reach. So Matt set up a cardboard box as a target for him and he filled that full of holes. Still, not the same he informed me. That night we went to this neat restaurant in Paxton, Ole's Steakhouse. This place is FULL of all kinds of exotic animal mounts that the owner hunted himself. Of course I forgot my camera, but to name a few...elephant, giraffe, water buffalo, polar bear...you get the idea. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. (the food is good too)

After dinner, we all went to the golf course to hit a bucket of balls. The kids really enjoyed this too. I'm glad to report that we didn't have one crash with the cart!!!

Before we knew it, it was dark and time to go.

Grammy's House

We just got back from 9 days of vacation. It went by way to fast, but we did manage to get quite a bit accomplished. Friday night we loaded up the soccer mom car and headed to Nebraska. We got to spend 4 1/2 days with Matt's grandparents. We had a really nice time visiting and catching up. The kids really liked making s'mores....

Of course we can't go to Grammy's house without going fishing.....

And we even managed to make it to the park one afternoon for some quality fun time with dad and a good game of catch...

Time for a haircut.....

Dustin was in need of a trim so last night he asked Matt to give him a haircut. He figured that it was time for his summer cut. (a buzz). Here he is admiring his new style. He went a little shorter then usual... ok, no big deal. Then he says.....I want to be SHINY BALD. I wasn't prepared for that one.


So why not he says. It's just hair mom, it will grow back. I say OK.....next thing I know is his head is covered in shaving cream and Matt's got the razor out...

As soon as it was done, he had to make a phone call to Nana to tell her what he had done.

It's now the day after and he still loves his bald head. Sounds like his friends at school thought it was pretty cool and couldn't believe that he's now BALD! I better stock up on the sunblock!!!!

I think that a few of the kids were disappointed that they couldn't strip down to their undies and play in the water again this year!!

Branding Day

Nothing like a branding to let me practice with my camera. There are so many things to photograph. Although this year I took the pictures instead of setting my camera to automatic. I didn't get a whole lot of good ones of the people, but I did get some AWESOME landscape ones. I know what my mistakes were so that has to count for something. So all & all, I did OK. Note...the blue sky..that's a plus for me!!!

Buddies...

Sterling had lots of help from Cade and Riley Jo. While Sterling was busy hobbling his horse, Cade had the very important job of holding the bridle. Now that's teamwork.

Try, try, try as you may.... Sterling & Tater couldn't quite reach high enuf to get the bridle off. According to them it was ALL the horses fault because he wouldn't lower his head!!

Dustin has been waiting on this day since the branding last year. What's not to like... going for a ride, playing with friends, good food, and usually playing in the creek at Mike's house (weather permitting) when it's all over?!?



Taters buddy, Boone (the horse he was using last year), has been showing his age lately so our neighbors up the road were nice enough to let him ride their daughters horse, Titan. Dustin & Titan seemed to get along pretty well. I think that he was just glad to be in the saddle again.
