Tater...

Dustin has been waiting on this day since the branding last year. What's not to like... going for a ride, playing with friends, good food, and usually playing in the creek at Mike's house (weather permitting) when it's all over?!?



Taters buddy, Boone (the horse he was using last year), has been showing his age lately so our neighbors up the road were nice enough to let him ride their daughters horse, Titan. Dustin & Titan seemed to get along pretty well. I think that he was just glad to be in the saddle again.

It's been 10 years (almost 11) and there's still something about this man that I find irresistible.

Look closely... I finally got solid proof that he DOES smile.

Spring time in Montana

Here it is almost May and it's snowing. Hopefully it will disappear as quickly as it came, but there is something about spring snow that I find appealing. As bad as I want warm weather and sunny days, a spring snow seems to renew everything and the snowflakes are so big and fluffy. Just beautiful. I tried to get a picture of the big flakes... this is what I got.

Okay... NOW I'm ready for nothing but warm and sunny days!!!!

Kids vs. Horses

So I have been taking a photography class to learn how to use my camera to its full capabilities. Actually it was a really interesting class and I learned a lot. Now I just have to practice and find the right groove for myself and my camera. The hardest problem I'm having is getting the exposure set correctly. Oh well....practice makes perfect!!!


One thing that I have discovered is that you can only photograph kids for so long before they start to protest. Lucky for me it seems that horses have a much longer patience span then kids do. They really don't seem to mind me clicking away at them.

Meet Gus

This is Gus. He is either very photogenic, a big camera hog, or has a taste for my camera.


I'll be sitting out in the pasture minding my own business and he ALWAYS has to be right in front of my lens!! The other day he tried to EAT my camera. Dang horse!! If only my kids would take a lesson from him, maybe I would get more smiles and less goofy faces.

Playing with Photoshop

I got the Adobe Photoshop program awhile ago and am still learning all of the cool things that are possible. It's a pretty neat program. I turned this bleached out picture into a neat looking pencil sketch.

A boy with a mission

Dustin seems to think that he now needs a dirt bike. Let me tell you, he is one determined little boy. He asked me if Matt & I would please buy him one if he payed for 1/2. I asked him how he was gonna get the $ to pay for half and he gives me this look and said..."I'll work MOM!" (so dramatic) Duh mom.

So far he has really impressed me & Matt, going above and beyond what is expected of him. He even volunteered to remove all the rocks and big mud clumps out of our dirt pile. For a small price of course.

I believe that you can never start teaching kids a good work ethic, and the value of a dollar too soon, and this is the perfect opportunity because Tater really wants a dirt bike. So if you have any spring projects that you might need a little help with, I know a little boy who is more then willing.
